Moritz DaffingerMoritz Daffinger, the famous Viennese portrait painter of the Biedermeier period, was born on January 25, 1790. He graduated in 1809 and became a free-lance miniaturist. His miniature portraits soon enjoyed great popularity, also with Vienna's high society. In addition to the high nobility and wealthy citizenry, the intellectual elite of that time also played a major role in his work. Daffinger portrayed Franz Schubert, Giacomo Rossini, the singer Malibran and others. The cholera epidemics of 1849 also proved fatal for Daffinger. He succumbed to the disease in his apartment at Rauhensteingasse in Vienna on August 22, 1849. |
